The Companion Relationship Between
the Diocese of Maryland and the Diocese of Accra

Many of the issues confronting the Diocese of Accra and the Diocese of Maryland are the same. Both Dioceses are concerned about children and women, seek ways to minister to young people, and care for the environment. Both are attentive to the AIDS crisis.
The Accra Diocesan Website listed these topics as Challenges:
1. The Moral and Spiritual Development of its people
2. The Plight of children and women
3. Involvement in Community / National Development programmes
4. Health - related issues and fight against HIV /AIDS pandemic
5. Stemming of religious fundamentalism
6. Leveling the ground for the Youths , the Leaders of Tomorrow.
The 2005 issues of The Diocesan Voice, the official newpaper of the Diocese of Accra, contained articles on a wide range of topics.
The December 2005 edition included an article on the Archbishop's pastoral letter that "directed that the programme, themed "Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise", must concentrate on mobilizing and reactivating the Anglican Health Profession Guild (AHPG) into liaising with other health professionals...and directed that messages from the pulpit are to be moulded to sensitize the congregations for a positive response to HIV/AIDS/STI prevention activities."
In the October 2005 issue, Archbishop Akrofi urged, "all Ghanaians, especially those involved in mining and other nature resource exploitation, to refrain from ruthless and unprofessional methods in exploiting the nation's natural resources....the careless deforestation and increasing number of cars on our roads, polluting the atmosphere with carbon emissions, all contribute to the ecological imbalance.'"
This issue began a two part series by Marian Ewurame Addy on "Ethics, Life and Science" - a discussion of the New Biology.
The January 2005 issue included articles on marriage and the ordination of women.
Although the ordination question is settled in Maryland, it remains important in Ghana.
